DEPT. OF MONSTEROLOGY #3 | REVIEW

We open with Team Challenger as we find them under attack from a temtacled horror from the deep in the Pacific ocean. And then go back to Team Carter in China, whom we left last issue in a bit of a pickle. The dastardly brother and sister duo and their hordes have surrounded our Paranormal investigators, and after an incident which is very evocative of a scene from Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, two team members must enter the dangerous vampire infested Forbidden Tomb to retrieve a relic for the bad guys, and our young heroine Sawmi goes into astral mode to converse with professor Acarya in private, but finds a young boy who tries to lure her spirit self someplace else….

This is another terrific issue from Gordon Rennie and the rest of Team Monsterology. Again, PJ’s artwork is fantastic, his splash pages are superb namely the opening pages and the last page, with the astal scenes also a treat. I love the stylised borders in the mentioned scenes. Steven Denton’s excellent colour work helps to bring everything to vivid life. And lets not forget Jim Campbell, whose lettering is terrific as always.

The story was gripping from the first page to the last, with my only criticism being that it was too damn short! I wanted more upon finishing which is always a good sign. I cannot wait to get my hands on the concluding episode next month.
